'The Struggling Writer' by Peter Steadman

Leaking ideas, eking out words
My mind seeks to produce
Lines that are more than absurd,
Verse that might seduce
A reader or two
To look away from the TV.
Maybe someone like you
Could create with me
A tale that may roam and soar,
The edges of imagination to see
Unconsidered highs to score.

But all this requires the muse -
That inconceivable nuance
Who seems of late to choose
For freedom to take the chance.
Please return dear sprite!
Without you my mind is numb,
My focus cannot alight
To produce even a crumb
Of prose that may crack
Another’s mood to challenge
From its current track,
Their outlook to rearrange
